Local Attractions in Peebles & The Tweed Valley
Peebles and the surrounding area has many facilities to offer its visitors ( see below for some useful local websites)
From fishing on the lovely River Tweed to a choice of many good golf courses at Peebles, Cardrona, Innerleithen and West Linton.
In Peebles itself there is a good sports centre (The Gytes) and swimming pool to suit all the family.
The town offers good quality shops and a weekly outdoor market (on Thursdays). The area is ideally suited to walking, cycling and horse riding – there is a Riding Centre nearby as well as the mountain biking mecca that is Glentress Forest is on our doorstep ( with access to the forest directly from our holiday accommodation – you don’t need to go on any public roads to get there).
We have secure bike storage and bike washers available at Winkston.
The Borders area is steeped in heritage with many historical homes and great Abbeys, all within an easy drive from Peebles.
Just outside Peebles itself we have Neidpath Castle, an impressive medieval castle dramatically situated by the River Tweed. Also nearby is Traquair House, the oldest inhabited house in Scotland.
